Our Story

Onward Enterprises CIC was started in 1990 by Peter Sindall MBE and Margery Sindall after a long career in social services  including managing Attleborough Day Services. Peter saw the need to provide an integrated yet protective work environment for adults predominantly with learning difficulties as well as those on the Autism Spectrum. With the support of local industry Onward Enterprises moved into its first unit in Harleston Norfolk. The following year the couples daughter Rachel came into the business and opened a second unit in Thetford Norfolk.

Since its inception Onward Enterprises has grown in size and now supports over a hundred adults through its supported work opportunities. Onward Enterprises now receives referrals from Local Authorities as well as self referral by individuals. Onward's now supports people with a various  needs from Young People leaving education, to those with mental health issues as well as adults with learning difficulties and those on the Autism Spectrum.  

In keeping with the ethos of the company Onward Enterprises became a Community Interest Company in 2008 with Peter Sindall receiving an MBE in the same year for services to adults with learning difficulties. Being a Community Interest Company, Onward Enterprises operates as a ''not for profit'' organisation and as such reinvests monies back into development and funding social social opportunities for its service users, These include a theatrical group Onward Players, that annually put on a pantomime in Harleston, an annual holiday to Bultin's and the companies Christmas celebration. 

Since 1990 Onward Enterprises CIC has labelled, packed and fulfilled work for M&H Plastics, Eastpoint and St Peters Brewery to name a few. We have packed and re-worked lines for pharmaceutical retailers, major chain retail outlets as well as niche markets. has a dedicated full time production, supervisory, administration and management teams. 

Onward Enterprises CIC is managed by OE managment which comprises of its three directors,  Margery Sindall, Co-Founder,

Rachel Allum-Sindall and Ruth Sindall.

Meet the Directors

Peter Sindall MBE

Founder & Director

Peter having founded Onward Enterprises in 1990 had worked tirelessly over the years to make it the success it is today. Peter who passed away in late 2017 has left an amazing legacy which continues to grow under the stewardship of Rachel, Peter and Margery's younger daughter with the support of other directors. 

Margery Sindall

Co-Founder & Director

Margery has played an active part in Onward Enterprises since its inception in 1990. Margery working alongside Peter has been responsible for the administration side of the business and overseeing an administration team as the company grew from strength to strength. Margery like Peter has not yet retired and continues to take an active interest in the company that she built with her husband Peter.

Rachel
Allum-Sindall

Managing Director

Rachel joined Onward Enterprises in 1991 after working at a resource for children with behavioural issues. Rachel came into the company to manage the Thetford Unit which she has done successfully since 1991. Rachel has been instrumental in developing the Thetford unit which expanded its premises substantially in 2012. Rachel became a Director in 2008 and is now the Managing Director. 

Ruth Sindall

Non-Executive Director

Ruth Sindall, a Non-Executive Director, acting in an advisory capacity to the company.

Daughter of Peter and Margery, has been a volunteer at many events for Adults with learning difficulties & disabilities. Trained as teacher, then went in to Sports centre management, ran a successful leisure centre before moving back into education as Curriculum Manager. Ruth has recently joined OE as Manager of the Harleston unit.
